Quotes of the Day!

After "bath" and jamies!.................

Had to write these down....

I was nursing Kate and Lane was sitting beside me reading to me and when she was done, she said, "You know, I think things have gotten easier since she was born!" Now, I don't think she is up from 2 to 5 am when I am nor is she nursing a baby while reading with her 6 year old nor is she giving a bath to a 5 and 6 year old while holding a 6 day old....but other than that, yeah, maybe to her it is easier!! Actually, Kate has been good and I can't complain!
We were putting her pajamas on her tonight and Bo looked at me, grinning, in all seriousness, and said, "Mom, can we keep her forever?" I said, "sure we are, Bo" He said "YES!"

The labor story

I don't know if I will ever forget any of my labors...all pretty unique, some better than others....this one CRAZY!! So, started having contractions at 1:00 am Wednesday, could not sleep all night, they were between 5 and 10 minutes apart, so at about 7:00 dad came to take the kids to school and Rob and I headed to the hospital. By 9:00, they told me we would be staying and she would be born today, I was 3 cm and contractions were regular at 5 minutes apart. So, we were excited and started planning for Lane and Bo's arrrangements! I had told Dr. Mestemacher that I wanted to try not to have an epidural (because I did not have a great experience the first two times..Lane's had a bad "hotspot" so I felt everything on the right side of my body for a long time and with Bo, I was extremely nauseated and threw up for hours. Well, needless to say, I had an underappreciation for the epidural! I walked the halls all morning and I was still at 4 cm at 1:00, so she broke my water and started a very low dose of pitocin (which they try not to give if you are going "natural" because of the degree to which it intensifies contractions...and by about 3:00 I was at 5 cm but then haulted there ....Dr. Mestemacher came in at 5:30 and said basically she would give me another couple of hours and then we may be looking at a c-section, so she turned to pitocin up (to the max) and the contractions quickly became absolutely unbearable...I feel like I went to another planet for about 2 hours....I think I left my body and had like an out of body experience the pain was so bad and to top it off I was throwing up (obviously the epidural was not what caused the throwin up before)....Rob says he wished he would have video taped me and I wish he had, so I can remember how bad it was, because it is already starting to leave me! The pitocin had caused the contractions to come right on top of each other with like 30 seconds between....Dr.Mestemacher came in at about 6:45 and said the baby should be here in the next hour...I was between 8 and 9 cm, but I told them I couldn't take it anymore and they found the anesthesiologist savior.....when he got there about 10 min later, I then thought I couldn't sit still long enough to get it, but through my sweet nurses (April and Alicia) help, I did....Rob says "the tornado left the room" and life came back to normal.....I delivered her less than an hour after the epidural (so 18 hours without it and one hour with it). I think it should be illegal to give pitocin without an epidural! I pushed for about 8 minutes through 4 contractions and she was here...perfect, 6 pounds, 14 ounces (the same as her sister) and 20 1/4 inches long (the same as her brother) at 7:58 pm. I had no episiotomy or stitches! However, after it was over, Dr. Mestemacher had to do a partial DNC like procedure and she said if I had not gotten the epidural, she would have had to taken me to surgery....so thank you God for your intervention at the right time! I felt great after it was over! Apgar score of 8/9. I am sure everyone has their own personal labor story, and this is mine for Kate....unforgettable, but she is here all the same! There were several comments about that I looked good after the labor...if you would have gone through that and it was over....you would have been all smiles too!!!

In Labor!

It is April 21, 2010 2:05 pm and I am doing some blogging as I breathe through contractions! I started having contractions at 1:00 this morning and we came to the hospital at 8:00- I was 3 cm dialated and 70% effaced , contracting about every 5 minutes then....making slow progress, now 4 cm and 80% effaced, so Dr. Mestemacher just broke my water....now contractions getting less bearable (I don't have an epidural at this point...trying not to...we will see!). So, there are some posts below I worked on earlier this morning (some in the middle of the night while I was at home in labor)....trying to stay on top of things so that I can post about her when she gets here.....

Lane's softball....Glass Tire

I went into labor the next day!!

These girls are so sweet to each other...I have never heard them say an unkind word to each other!

I was tickled to hear Lane tell Bo last night in the bathtub that she "loved softball"....well it was probably an exaggeration, but much different from last year. I talked to her about sometimes, we have to practice things for a long time to get good enough that we can enjoy it (like reading I told her).....and that made sense to her. She may not be the star of the team, but she is enjoying it (and yes, the concession stand and dugout are still her favorite parts!) Hopefully more to come!

First baseball season...Little Porky's baseball!

not much cuter than this.....Rob and I have gotten many laughs about Bo's team name "Little Porky's"....Lane wanted to know if his shirt was going to have a pig on it...that would have been priceless! This 4 year old could not be more excited about playing baseball...he enjoyed every minute of his first game

Baby Kate Luncheon

My mom has a very sweet friend and neighbor who had a family luncheon for us to honor Kate Ellen. Ms Nancy is so sweet....she wanted to include Lane in the planning, so she had her come over that morning and decorate cupcakes to "help her". It was such a nice, relaxing morning and sweet baby girl came home with some more goodies! Again my mom found a creative way to pass down a family heirloom....the pillow case dresses above (matching for Lane and Kate) are from pillow cases that my gradmother made 62 years ago (the year my mom was born), and my great aunt had them and gave them to her a few months ago. Isn't the pink and blue gorgeous?? Here are some family pictures.....

Mini-Vacation!

Spring break is over and is was great! I only worked 2 days and we had lots of great weather to enjoy. Rob was productive and we got our flower beds done, yard sprayed, yard sale junk hauled off......then we took a little vaca to Memphis for the zoo, pool, dinner at Swanky's Taco shop (which was wonderful), Build a Bear, a doctor's appointment, and a movie in bed at the hotel! The heated outdoor pool at the Hilton was a little less than heated, so the kids did all the swimming and Rob and I enjoyed the sun in the chairs!
